The Kat Caught: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

SPOILERS AHEAD

Hey what's up you guys? I hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I did! I turned 18 on Thursday (April 3rd) and I celebrated by seeing Captain America the next day, which was also it's opening day (April 4th)! I was so stoked! I love the Marvel movies so I was super excited to see this movie. I went with one of my best friends, who apparently knows nothing about any superhero movie, but I quickly brought her up to speed while we were in line (only a 10 minute wait!) and she only had a few questions here and there.

Want to know what it's all about? Keep on reading! Want to know just about my experience going to see the movie? Keep an eye out for my next blog post!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, otherwise known as Captain America 2.

So the basic overview of the movie is that it's current day and The Cap, aka Steve Rogers, (Chris Evans) and Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanova (Scarlett Johansson) start the movie off working a mission together to save some hostages. Later on, they find out S.H.I.E.L.D. (agency for superheroes basically) has been compromised. The Cap and Natasha work with a hero from the Marvel comic book realm who is newly introduced to the Marvel movies as Sam Wilson, although some may know him better as The Falcon. Together the three work together to try to figure out who has taken over S.H.I.E.L.D. and try to put a stop to it. Along the way a new villain is introduced, The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), who gets in the way of the trio trying to save their agency.

SPOILERS BELOW

My review: It was awesome, but pretty predictable. I'll explain why later. I loved the friendship the writers built between Steve and Natasha, while it seemed like an unlikely friendship (to me), it worked. I don't think it beat the friendship The Cap had with Sam Wilson though. I really enjoyed the Sam Wilson character, he brought humor to the film (not that it was lacking humor) and he turned out to be a loyal comrade.

The "Winter Soldier" on the other hand, it was way too predictable that he was Bucky, The Cap's best friend from the previous film. They gave it away when Steve visited The Captain America museum and they talked about "his loyal best friend" Bucky. They practically just handed us the end of the movie right then and there! Hell, if you had checked the cast list before you went to the movie, you already knew what was going to happen!

Anyway, the overall plot was good. I did not see Hydra coming back into the picture, especially not almost 70 years later! Although, they never technically left the picture, but nobody knew that. When they tried to pass off the whole "Fury got shot, he's dead" plot line though, I didn't buy it for a second. Why? Remember Coulson in The Avengers? Yeah, he "died" and then he got his own show, so I didn't buy Fury's death for a second, which is good because he wasn't dead after all.

The film was definitely action packed, with all of the fight scenes, car explosions, and weaponry. If you were worried about it being focused on some kind of "romance" between Natasha and Steve since she was a main character, don't worry, that doesn't happen and I don't see it ever happening. No, the film was fully focused on finding the enemy, although there were definitely scenes of Natasha trying to hook Steve up with a date. Those scenes, were just a few of the humorous parts of the movie. We also had maybe a 10 minute scene with Fury just spitting out great one liners, one right after another. I also enjoyed getting a glimpse at the people controlling The Winter Soldier, aka Bucky.

After Credits Scene: Because you know pretty much every Marvel movie has one! I did not expect this scene at all though! Spoilers: What we're shown after the credits are two members of Hydra discussing what to do next. And since most people started talking and leaving before/during this scene, I have no idea what they were saying. But I did catch that THEY HAVE CREATED A REPLICA OF LOKI'S STAFF, WHAT THE HECK! AND THEY HAVE THE TWINS, QUICKSILVER AND SCARLET WITCH CAPTURED AND THEY PLAN TO USE THEM AGAINST THE AVENGERS. Holy crap did I forget that they were coming into the picture soon! I had completely forgotten that they were going to been in the next Avengers movie!

Overall rating? 10 out of 10! Yes the Bucky thing was predictable, but I loved the movie! Leave a comment and let me know what you guys thought about the movie!

Catch ya guys later!

-Kat
